Montana Hunting
Montana is home to great hunting amongst unparalleled scenery. From antelope, moose, sheep and goat to bison, black bear and mountain lion, there is a great diversity of hunting opportunity in Montana. Don't forget the fantastic beer and elk hunting for which Montana is known.
Montana hunting seasons are determined by one of two methods or a combination. Some hunting seasons are based on fixed dates. For example, the Montana mountain grouse season starts on September 1st each year and ends on December 15th, regardless of the day of the week on which these dates fall. Alternatively some seasons are determined based on a formula whereby the annual dates begin or end of fixed days of the week withing a given month. The deer and elk general rifle season starts on a specific day of the week and extends 36 days. Other hunting seasons are determined by a combination of fixed and formula where by the start date might be a formula with the end date being fixed. The result of this tends to be a formula starting weekend (perhaps a holiday weekend) followed by a fixed end date and thus a variable season length.
In the fall you can hunt for the following species in Montana: antelope, moose, sheep, goat, black bear, deer, elk, mountain lion, grouse, partridge, pheasant, waterfowl and turkey. Come winter switch gears and hunt for bison, mountain lion, grouse (early winter only), partridge (early winter only), pheasant (early winter only) and some times of waterfowl. In the spring there is a turkey season along with black bear.
