Minnesota

Located in the upper midwest of the United States, Minnesota is ranked as the 12th largest state in the Union with a total land area of 86,943 square miles. Home to the “Twin Cities,” 60 percent of the state's population is found in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area. The rest of the state has been given away to agriculture, mining, forestry, and recreation.

Bordering Lake Superior, the state of Minnesota is known as the “Land of 10,000 Lakes.” With 11,842 lakes over 10 acres in size, the state's nickname is no exaggeration. Itasca is Minnesota's oldest state park with over 100 lakes, including Lake Itasca, the source of the mighty Mississippi River. Home to the University of Minnesota's Biological and Forestry Campus, the area joins the Great Plains with deciduous and coniferous forests. Minnesota is covered in an astonishing amount of lakes, rivers,  forests, and state parks that are all protected by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

Home to large company headquarters such as Target, General Mills, Best Buy, Valspar, SuperValu, Land O' Lakes, Hormel, U.S. Bancorp, Medtronic, 3M, and UnitedHealth Group, the foundation of Minnesota's economy is now based on finished products and services. One of the state's earliest industries, agriculture is still a big part of Minnesota's economy even though only 1 percent of the population is employed in the agricultural sector. Minnesota is the largest producer of sugar beets, sweet corn, farm raised turkeys, and green beans. The forestry industry also remains as a power house with logging, pulpwood processing, paper production, and forest products manufacturing. Though Minnesota's pure iron ore deposits have been depleted, the mining of taconite, an iron bearing sedimentary rock, remains strong. Retail also stands as an important part of the economy because Minnesota is the home to the famous Mall of America and big corporations such as Target and Best Buy.

With an abundance of beautiful outdoor terrain, Minnesota provides an excellent place for a variety of outdoor recreation and hunting. Minnesota has 72 state parks, 58 state forests, and countless state wildlife preserves that provide residents and tourists with an endless amount of places to explore the outdoors. Renowned as a destination for canoeing and fishing, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness is located within Minnesota's Superior National Forest. Hiking, biking, wildlife watching, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, hunting, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, the list of possible outdoor activities in Minnesota goes on and on. The state has more than 900 miles of ATV trails and more than 20,000 miles of snowmobile trails as well thousands of lakes perfect for watersports and boating. With a plethora of natural resources, Minnesota is the ideal place for outdoor recreation and to own Minnesota real estate.
